“There is only one thing to do with monsters like you. I know you cannot be reasoned with, but I have just the thing to make you leave my Scarlet alone.” Phyra made a container full of a strange liquid materialize in her hand as she spoke. The girls could only look on in bewilderment.
“I am not a monster! I may not be a fully living being, but I would never hurt anyone!” said Eloise, looking down in disbelief.
“But you are! You’re hurting me! You’re going to take my daughter away! You’ll convince her to follow you to the Underworld just like your father did to your mother,” Phyra barked.
“You’re crazy! I would never!”

“I shouldn’t have let you have so much freedom! I should have known that you’d end up doing exactly what I told you not to do! How many times have I reminded you that the deities of life should never be fraternizing with these undead monsters!” Phyra screamed.
The day was ending as it always had done before. Scarlet and Eloise were spending time together in their favourite spot, having fun and laughing away. This time, however, Phyra had heard them and had come to investigate. Her eyes suddenly lit up as if they were on fire, “So this is where you’ve been spending all your time!”

*****I just want to give a warning that this next bit might be intense for some people even though it’s cartoony.*****
The children continued to visit Eloise, although some visited more often than others. As the children grew older and aged into teens, only one of them continued to visit every single evening. That teenager was Scarlet.
Ayla was the first one to spot Scarlet as she came running up the hill, “There she is! Finally!”
In between heavy, tired breaths, Scarlet spoke, “Sorry I’m late! I came as fast as I could!”
“You must be Scarlet!” Eloise said excitedly.
“That’s me!”
“We were worried your mother wasn’t going to let you come. Neil told me a little bit about her.”
“I just told her that all my other friends were coming,“ Scarlet grinned. “She let me come because she didn’t want me to be left out.”
The children walked towards the graveyard until they finally spotted Eloise. “See that purple girl over there? That’s her,“ Neil whispered. “Try to be nice!”
The group continued forward and Eloise greeted them with a big smile. “Hello, everyone! Thank you so much for coming here. I know it’s not great.”
“I’m just glad we’re not meetin’ underground at my house so that I don’t have ta clean my room!” said Rhea. The rest of the children chuckled.
“I suppose I should introduce you to everyone, Eloise,” said Neil. “This messy green one is Rhea, in the orange shirt we have Cameron, and his girly double is his twin sister Ayla. Rhea, as you probably guessed, is a goblin, while Cam and Ayla are from the dream realm.”
“It’s so nice to meet you all!” Eloise replied.
A few days later, Neil and his friends gathered together to meet Eloise at a graveyard. The children took longer to get together than expected, so it was almost night by the time they had arrived.
“Ayla and Cameron made us late because their mom made them change clothes first. She said that if they were goin’ ta go out in the dark, they’d better be wearin’ somethin’ bright,” Rhea explained.
“That’s okay, I was chatting with Eloise while I waited for everyone to get here. Does anyone know if Scarlet is coming?” Neil asked, looking a little disappointed.
“I know she got permission, but that doesn’t mean she’s always going to come,” Ayla replied.
“We’ll just have to get started without her then. If we stay out too long, we’re all going to end up in trouble,” Neil said with a sigh.
“You don’t dress like the other kids I know,” Neil commented.
“I’m not from here, I’m visiting from the Underworld. I get here through mean-looking statues like this one. I only do it at night though because the day time is too bright!” Eloise replied.
“I don’t spend a lot of time outside during the day either. My dad works nights, being the Man in the Moon and all. I am usually with my family when my dad isn’t working, so I mostly get out at night too. It’s great when my dad starts work early. That’s when I get to play with the other kids.”
“I can come here in the evening just before the sun goes down!
Do you think the other kids would ever come to a place like this one so I could meet them?” Eloise asked excitedly.
“Yeah, I can ask around when the sun comes back up. They just gotta get permission from their parents. Most of them can probably come, but my friend Scarlet might have some trouble. Her mom is really protective.”
